Notes for Later

Notes for LaterI’ve tried several systems to help me track web pages I want to visit later. There’s a nice little Firefox plug-in that lets me bookmark something to read later, but I’ve discovered that I’m bad at referring back to that. Then I discovered an handy little application that will permit me to email reminders to myself about sites I want to explore further.

Holiday Madness

Contrary to better advice, Eric and I chose to make a foray into the mad world of holiday shoppers this past Saturday. After our harried experience with our shopping trip the weekend before last, we had both sworn, "Never again!" I guess we have a short memory, as that experience didn't stop us from venturing into the hungry hordes again to run a few errands, none of which were holiday-related. Go figure. After being jostled, pushed, and run over for the second weekend in a row, we had both had enough. So, we decided to reinstitute our ban on out-of-town shopping in the big city (Beaumont) for the entire month of December. Last year's shopping ban worked out quite well, and I did all of my purchasing online. Sadly, that practice doesn't support local merchants, which I really like to do, but by buying online at home, I only have to deal with one mad shopper, my hubby. That's doable.:)

13 Essential WordPress Plug-ins for Every WordPress Installation

13 Essential Wordpress Plug ins for Every Wordpress Installation I'm just now jumping on the WordPress bandwagon and am starting to convert many of my sites to WordPress.  Now that I've decided to use this platform, I needed to determine which plug-ins were most essential to my site's success. If you don't carefully select your plug-ins, you can accidentally subject your site to some virus or malware and have to spend many, many hours troubleshooting the problem.

Over the last several years, a multitude of plug-ins have been developed, which adds extra flexibility to tweak the capabilities of your WordPress blog. Because there are thousands of plug-ins out there, it's difficult for newbies to figure out which ones are essential.

Working with Local Business in Mobile Marketing

Some of you may know if you read my blog post earlier this week that I finally parted with my antiquated cell phone and upgraded to an iPhone. Not the new 4G, but a 3GS. I decided an upgrade was necessary because of a new direction that I want to take the consulting side of my biz.

Top 5 Reasons Why Mobile Marketing Will Increase Your Profits in 2011

Top 5 Reasons Why Mobile Marketing Will Increase Your Profits in 2011 Now that I’ve finally gotten a Smartphone, I feel as though I’ve joined the 21st century, techologically speaking, at least, and can begin to engage in the mobile marketing sent to me by businesses I patronize. I’ve seen people all around me become VERY attached to their smartphones like a new toy, seldom putting it down for anything.  In fact, having someone text on their while I’m speaking to them has become the newest item in my top 5 list of annoyances, but that’s another story.

Entering the 21st Century with My New iPhone

Today I'm officially entering the 21st century by purchasing an iPhone. My current cell phone is 7 years old, and when I showed it to an AT&T rep at my local store, the clerk didn't even recognize it..LOL Since I don't travel much any longer, I really didn't need anything other than a basic cell phone to make calls when running errands. My husband had even offered to buy me an iPhone earlier this year when he upgraded, and I declined, thinking that it would serve no purpose for me other than an expensive paperweight.

Turkey and Other Things

Eric and I had a great Turkey Day last week, although our "vacation" was a misnomer, as we spent the week running errands, going for doctor's appointments, and getting ready for the big Turkey Day. I had taken some photos of Turkey Daddy Eric with our bird, but apparently I haven't honed my digital picture-taking ability, as all of them were too blurry to publish. Sigh. We finally got around to relaxing by Friday, and Eric remarked to me that he had no idea how much work it took to pull off a Thanksgiving meal. My reply? "Welcome to my world, honey!" LOL As a result of Eric's "epiphany", we're having a "no work Christmas" with plans for Pei Wei takeout!

Cloudmark DesktopOne

Cloudmark DesktopOneWhen I upgraded to Thunderbird 3 for my email program, I lost my beloved Cloudmark Desktop spam detection and blocker program. Cloudmark Desktop still worked for Outlook, but for some reason they didn’t initially upgrade the program to work with the new version of Thunderbird. The amount of spam I receive has been increasing daily, much to my dismay. Frustrated, a few weeks ago I decided to check once again to see if Cloudmark Desktop supported Thunderbird 3 and was pleasantly surprised.
