Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service)

Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service)As I look into my crystal ball of marketing, I foresee that I’ll be adding more videos to my marketing mix this year. Anyone who’s ever dealt with videos knows that they’re both a storage hog and a bandwidth hog. I have been using an online service that both stores my media and provides a web site player for both audios and videos. However, I’m tired of paying a monthly recurring fee and started to explore other options.

7 Essential Features of an Effective Web Site

7 Essential Features of an Effective Web Site

Web sites have changed dramatically since I starting doing business online over 10 years ago.  When I look back at some of my old sites, I cringe at how unprofessional they seem.  Unfortunately, I’ve also run across sites currently in use that I can easily identify as really ugly 1997 Frontpage sites, but they must still be working for the business owner, de spire the unattractive appearance.  Then Flash sites and Frames sites took the Internet world by storm, and that, too, passed.  Now the trend runs to creating web site/blog hybrid sites, or blogsites, that run on the WordPress platform.

Best Hosting Site for a New Blog

Q:  What’s the best hosting site for a new blog?

Amy

A:  Hi Amy!

I recommend a WordPress installation on Bluehost.com.   Bluehost makes it VERY easy to install WP with their Simple Script installation system. Plus, a year’s hosting on Bluehost enables you to host unlimited domains, which is really useful if you want to host multiple blogs, like for affiliate marketing, for example.

All of my upgrades to WP have gone seamlessly through Bluehost with the exception of 1. I had a tech support response back within a few hours and was able to fix the problem immediately.

To-Do Desklist

To Do DesklistMy to-do list often runneth over. I am the world’s largest user of sticky notes, I think, and my desk it often littered with them as I remember things I have to do or ideas that I have. Periodically this habit drives me crazy, and I begin to look for other solutions. I have a longer-term solution with an online collaboration service, on which I note my client/project to-do’s. However, I wanted something simple and flexible just for my desktop that would break me of the post-it note habit yet safely store all of the info running around in my head.

How to Become Your Industry’s Leading Expert in 30 Days

How to Become Your Industrys Leading Expert in 30 Days Many online solo service professionals wonder how they will ever become known in their industry, given the easy access to the abundance of information found online.  Almost everyone claims to be an expert, so it stands to reason that some percentage of that group are charlatans. How do you create trust and authenticity with your target market and be seen as a real, true expert rather than as a sham?

Bluehost

BluehostI’ve been looking to switch web hosts for some time. Even though I had a great relationship with the tech support person and had been with the company for almost 10 years, I was paying three times more for my hosting than what was offered at comparable hosting companies. After participating in a program where a colleague was using this new company, I decided to make the leap.

Bluehost is a cPanel hosting service (this is the administrative interface that lets you control many aspects of your hosting account) that offers customers the option of hosting an unlimited number of domains. While the additional domains are set up in a fashion that was somewhat foreign to me, the tutorials provided helped me easily understand their organizational system.

7 Best Social Networking Plugins for WordPress

7 Best Social Networking Plugins for WordpressAs I get more and more familiar with WordPress, I become completely overwhelmed by all of the options out there that will enhance this program’s functionality — there are thousands of WordPress plugins.  When I go into overwhelm,  I begin looking online for lists of the best of whatever it is that I’m seeking.  If I find a great recommendation, or see something recommended on multiple lists, that’s the option that I will try.

My latest search has been for social networking plugins for WordPress.  As usual, I found hundreds of WordPress plugins offering a variety of options for social networking. I managed to narrow the options down to seven.

Coolest Dad Ever!

Well, I didn’t watch much of the Superbowl.  My hubby had it on while he was in the living room.  I read a book as he watched it, and only paid attention to the commercials.

The coolest commercial by far (and the #1 coolest dad) was this one by VW.

Watch it here:

Shortly after Eric when to his office to play a little WOW (or something) online and watch the game there, my DVR kicked on to something else I was recording, and I didn’t see the end of the game,  In fact, I didn’t know who won until this morning..LOL
