Membership sites come in all sizes, shapes, and offerings today. Site owners use any number of software platforms to operate their sites, and the sites can be pretty simple to very complex. I’ve been rethinking my membership site strategy lately, as I see many more options for membership sites than ever before.

For example, you can create as a membership site:

Simple “one time payment” products for additional projection and to add new content or updates as you create them.
A fixed term membership site delivered by autoresponder in which the member has to log into the membership site to retrieve the content

StripMail

I get many Word documents from clients where I have to take the content and put on a web site, in a blog post, or in an ezine. Word adds some funky formatting to any piece of text that’s undetectable until you try and paste it into something else. For years, I used another program to strip out characters, but the downside of this program is that it forced me to set a text line limit. Now I discovered one that simply strips the formatting.

School of Hard Knocks Thunderbird Lessons

My new fav email program finally failed me. Last Thursday, Thunderbird crashed and took all of my email with it. I had never determined where my Thunderbird files were, so they weren’t set to back up with online backup system, SOS Online Backup. Sigh. PITA lesson now learned..LOL

I had to turn on “Show hidden files” before I was able to find where my Thunderbird mail files were located. Now I know that they located here:
C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Application Data/Thunderbird/Profiles/profilename.default/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox

And, I just set my profile to back up every night.

As I work more and more with WordPress, I began to see the need for an installation checklist, or all of those tasks that need to be completed for a new WordPress installation. Part of my rationale in creating this checklist is to make it easy for my assistant to set up a new WordPress install.

I actually have several installation checklists set up, depending on the nature of the site. I divide my sites into the following categories:

Product (to promote and deliver an information product)
Affiliate marketing (to promote an affiliate product)
